SCHOOL FUNDRAISING UPDATE

An enormous thank you goes out to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic School community for your generosity and support of our school. We raised $6400 in donations and $4100 in QSP Magazine subscriptions. These funds will be used to purchase resources benefiting our students. Also, our school's spirit of giving and sharing was demonstrated through our hugely successful Christmas Bazaar where we raised $1100 which will go directly to a local charity. Thank you to Mrs. Fiorillo and all of the parent volunteers for making our Christmas Bazaar a wonderful event. Please find attached a summary of school generated funds for this school year. http://schools.hcdsb.org/shoj/Documents/SACRED%20HEART%20OF%20JESUS%20SGF%20as%20at%20December%2015%202011-%20Summary.pdf

When Your Child Comes Home with Pediculosis (Head Lice)
Board Policy states that if a child is found to have Pediculosis (more commonly known as Head Lice), parents must be called immediately to have the child treated accordingly. Prior to returning to school, they must see a doctor or an approved agency such as WeCare to have the child rechecked. Proof of the clearance of head lice must be provided to the school in the form of a doctor's note or letter from the agency prior to re-admittance. Know that all children in the classroom will be checked by WeCare. If there are any positive cases, siblings will also be checked.
Please take the time to read the attached document as it pertains to Halton Catholic District School Boards policy and procedures on Pediculosis (Head Lice)
SCHOOL UNIFORM NOTICE #2 - NOV. 28 2011
STEP 2 (Nov. 28/11): Information has been sent home outlining the Procedures and Action Plan. Please take the time to read over the attached document which clearly outlines the process we will be following.

New Ministy Food and Beverage Policy
The Ministry has put out a new Food and Beverage Policy that will be implemented by September 1, 2011.  Staff members and a parent from school council have been in-serviced on this policy which will have an affect on the selling of food products at the school.  Attached is a sheet that highlights the changes -
School Closures / Bus Cancellations
Please refer to the Board website @ www.hcdsb.org for up to date information regarding school closures and bus cancellations. You can also refer to the December/January newsletter for a listing of radio and television stations that will be broadcasting the information.
Parking
Further to the letter and email sent out about the enforcement of no parking in the fire zone area in front of the school - we have also been asked to remind parents that the road area in front of the school is also an area that needs to be vehicle free.  The south side of Country Club in front of the school is a no stopping zone and the North side of the street is a no parking zone.
Class Portals
The class portals need to be accessed through a different means this year.  You have two ways to access them - The easiest is to click on the link as posted on the Home page of our website OR if you go through the boards' public website, click on "Schools and Administration", scroll down and click on Sacred Heart of Jesus and scroll down again to find the link for class portals.  Sorry for any confusion.
Continuing Education
Please find attached the link for HCDSB's Continuing Education Fall Programs for International Languages. Click on 'Youth Programs' and then JK-Gr. 8 International languages. www.haltonalc.com
Parking Concerns
As with any school, the issue of child safety around the parking lot needs to be addressed.  Prior to the start of school and at the end of school we will have a high volume of vehicles dropping off and picking up students.  We would ask that if you are using the roundabout area on the West side of the school that you do not park on the curb and leave your vehicle.  This area is meant as a Kiss 'n Ride area, where children quickly exit or enter the vehicle and then the vehicle is to drive away.  If you do plan on leaving your vehicle you must find a regular parking spot.
Newsletters
All newsletters and calendars are available on our website.  Click on the link above to view each months newsletter and calendar.  We will be sending home a hard copy of the monthly calendar at the beginning of each month.  If you wish to receive a hard copy of the newsletter, we will have some available in the office to be picked up.
Safe Arrival
It is necessary for your child's safety and the safety of all students that parents report student absences before 8:50 a.m. on all days that your child will be absent from school.  Our answering machine is on at all times.  If we do not hear from you, and your child is away, we will try and contact you and all the emergency numbers provided.  If cannot make contact with anyone, our board policy requires us to contact the Police in order to determine the whereabouts of your child.
