At Holy Family School, we believe that every child is made in the ‘Image of God’ and we treat all of our students accordingly. Holy Family is a wonderful school community where the gospel values of Jesus Christ are present on a daily basis and can be observed in all of our interactions and relationships.
We believe in the importance of Respect:
Respect for God,
Respect for Self,
Respect for Others, and
Respect for the Environment.
One way that we foster this respect is by recognizing, on a daily basis, acts of kindness and respect. Students are awarded a ‘Shining Star’ for each witnessed act. In addition, every month, one student from each class is recognized for their demonstration of the Catholic Graduate Expectations and awarded a ‘Principal’s Award’. At our monthly assembly, we honour the students who receive ‘Principal’s Awards’ and those whose ‘Shining Star’ is drawn from the ‘Shining Star’ jar with two movie tickets each.
We believe that there is direct correlation between student success and the school environment where learning takes place. Our students are better able and more motivated to achieve their full potential as a result of our efforts to cultivate a positive school climate where they feel safe and supported. Our Safe School Action Team is currently in the process of drafting and implementing a thorough Bullying Prevention strategy for Holy Family School. It is essential to us that our students feel safe and love to come to school each and every day.
At Holy Family School we take a deliberate approach to nurturing Developmental Assets. Developmental Assets are grounded in extensive research in youth development, resiliency, and prevention; Developmental Assets represent the relationships, opportunities, and personal qualities that young people need to avoid risks and to thrive. We know that the more assets young people possess, the less likely they are to engage in a wide range of high-risk behaviors and the more likely they are to thrive. Essentially, we believe that if we equip our students with these assets and provide an environment that makes students feel happy, confident and loved, then we create optimum conditions for student learning. Under these conditions, our students will be well equipped to face the challenges of the future.
We are mindful that we are preparing our students to be 21st Century learners. We fulfill this responsibility not only within the context of core knowledge instruction, but also by imparting to our students the essential skills for success in today’s world, such as critical thinking, problem solving, communication and collaboration. We look forward to leading and joining our students as they begin and continue on their journeys into the 21st Century.
We are blessed to have a wonderful group of educators at our school. To a person, every teacher and person who plays the role of support staff holds themselves and our students to the highest standards. The educators at Holy Family are compassionate, diligent, caring and knowledgeable. They are willing to take chances and truly have the best interests of our students at heart. They are incredibly dedicated in their roles as guardians of our future.
Essential to our success at Holy Family School is our partnership with the parents of our students. Our parents help with reading programs, environmental issues, intramurals, and various other extracurricular activities. The parents at our school help set and achieve the goals that we have collectively set forth for our students. Parental involvement at Holy Family School is instrumental to student success.
I invite you to contact me if you have any questions about our school.
