At Holy Family School, we believe that every child is made in the ‘Image of God’ and we treat all of our students accordingly.  Holy Family is a wonderful school community where the gospel values of Jesus Christ are present on a daily basis and can be observed in all of our interactions and relationships.

We believe in the importance of Respect:

Respect for God,

Respect for Self,

Respect for Others, and

Respect for the Environment.

One way that we foster this respect is by recognizing, on a daily basis, acts of kindness and respect.  Students are awarded a ‘Shining Star’ for each witnessed act.  In addition, every month, one student from each class is recognized for their demonstration of the Catholic Graduate Expectations and awarded a ‘Principal’s Award’.  At our monthly assembly, we honour the students who receive ‘Principal’s Awards’ and those whose ‘Shining Star’ is drawn from the ‘Shining Star’ jar with two movie tickets each.

We believe that there is direct correlation between student success and the school environment where learning takes place. Our students are better able and more motivated to achieve their full potential as a result of our efforts to cultivate a positive school climate where they feel safe and supported.  Our Safe School Action Team is currently in the process of drafting and implementing a thorough Bullying Prevention strategy for Holy Family School.  It is essential to us that our students feel safe and love to come to school each and every day.

At Holy Family School we take a deliberate approach to nurturing Developmental Assets.  Developmental Assets are grounded in extensive research in youth development, resiliency, and prevention; Developmental Assets represent the relationships, opportunities, and personal qualities that young people need to avoid risks and to thrive.  We know that the more assets young people possess, the less likely they are to engage in a wide range of high-risk behaviors and the more likely they are to thrive. Essentially, we believe that if we equip our students with these assets and provide an environment that makes students feel happy, confident and loved, then we create optimum conditions for student learning.  Under these conditions, our students will be well equipped to face the challenges of the future.

We are mindful that we are preparing our students to be 21st Century learners.  We fulfill this responsibility not only within the context of core knowledge instruction, but also by imparting to our students the essential skills for success in today’s world, such as critical thinking, problem solving, communication and collaboration.  We look forward to leading and joining our students as they begin and continue on their journeys into the 21st Century.

We are blessed to have a wonderful group of educators at our school.  To a person, every teacher and person who plays the role of support staff holds themselves and our students to the highest standards.  The educators at Holy Family are compassionate, diligent, caring and knowledgeable.  They are willing to take chances and truly have the best interests of our students at heart.  They are incredibly dedicated in their roles as guardians of our future.

Essential to our success at Holy Family School is our partnership with the parents of our students.  Our parents help with reading programs, environmental issues, intramurals, and various other extracurricular activities.   The parents at our school help set and achieve the goals that we have collectively set forth for our students.  Parental involvement at Holy Family School is instrumental to student success.

I invite you to contact me if you have any questions about our school.

God Bless

Student Success Programs

Every Thursday from 3:30-4:30 the Big Brothers/Sisters facilitate a Homework club where 16 high school mentors work one on one with students to assist with homework.

We also held a information session for parents of JK-Gr. 1 parents about why it is important to read with your child and how to do this effectively.

Program Highlights

It is our intention to provide each and every one of our students with opportunities to shine.  We want to provide many opportunities for our children to participate in games, clubs, the arts, activities, intramurals and sports.  We want all of our students to discover something wonderful for them to do at Holy Family School which is outside of the classroom.  Once a month a student from every class produces a piece of writing and another student generates a piece of artwork displayed two different bulletin boards in our main hallway.

It is our intention at Holy Family to offer as many opportunities as possible for our students to be engaged in many different clubs and extracurricular activities.  We believe that the educational experience is much more rewarding for our students if they are given an opportunity to participate in clubs, teams or any other extracurricular activity.  Some of the clubs, activities and teams that we offer at Holy Family are:  Knitting Club, Intramurals, Robotics Club, Games Club, Computer Club, Reading Club, Social Justice Club, School Council, Choir and Homework Club.  Varsity Teams for Boys and Girls to play on include: Cross Country, Volleyball, Basketball, Soccer, Track and Field, and Ice Hockey.

Before and After School Programs

There is a YMCA First Base program that runs from 7:00 - 8:30 a.m. and 3:20 - 6:00 p.m.

Curriculum Focus

Our curriculum focus is to use small group differentiated instruction with an emphasis on assessment for/of and as learning. We're also are really focusing on the Learning Skills of Self-Regulation and Collaboration

Environmental Focus

At Holy Family, we believe that we are Stewards of the Earth and that we have a moral obligation to care for all of God's creations.  We believe that every person in our community can make a difference.  On Tuesdays, we participate in the 'Tupperware Tuesdays' program in which students try to reduce the amount of waste that is brought in the students' lunches.  It is our intention to apply for Eco-School Certification in the New Year.

Parent Community Involvement

In order for our students to reach their potential, we recognize that it is essential parents are involved in their children's educational lives.  We encourage all of our parents to be involved at Holy Family School whenever possible.  We have a very active parent volunteer community with many opportunities to become involved (criminal reference check is required).  We are grateful when our parents help out with activities such as: coaching teams, assisting with intramurals, assisting with YOGA, participating with School Council, assisting with the Safe Schools Committee and many other activities.  Please contact the school if you would like more information.
