 SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

FRENCH PUBLIC SPEAKING WINNERS - Congratulations to the Extended French Public Speaking winners, grade 6 student Madison K. for her speech Mes Vacances a Hawaii and grade 8 student Madelyn B for her speech  Le stereotype des Blondes. These students will continue on to the Regional French Public Speaking Competition that will be held on Thursday, April 8th, 2010 at St. Marguerite School in Oakville.

CONGRATULATIONS TO GRADE 6 STUDENT FELICIA C. who will be representing St. Gabriel's on March 25 at the Regional English Public Speaking Competition.  Felicia was chosen from the Grade 4 - 8 finalists for her speech on How Technology is Affecting Our World.

HCDSB "SHARING THE SPIRIT" AWARD OF EXCELLENCE - Grade 8 student Nicole B. is this year's recipient from St. Gabriel School for the Sharing the Spirit Award. The purpose of the award is to recognize the outstanding work and contributions of students in Catholic schools in Halton. Nicole was selected according to the following criteria: exemplary Catholic leadership qualities, commitment to family, involvement in school affairs, relationship with staff and students, and involvement in community activities.

SPIRIT OF INCLUSION AWARD- Isabella M.G.  is St. Gabriel's 2010 recipient of the Spirit of Inclusion Award. This award is for a student who demonstrates the following: involved in extra-curricular activities; demonstrates acts of friendship; exhibits strong school spirit committed to school activities; teachers & staff support the nomination; is a builder of school community; is involved in the spiritual life of the school; has an excellent attitude & spirit in meeting challenges; causes others to be valued & included, recognizing schoolmates as unique, each with contributions to make to the community.

HELPING HANDS FOR HAITI LENTEN CAMPAIGN -  Students will be able to purchase a helping hand for $5 which will be placed on their classroom door.  Throughout the Lenten season we will watch our efforts grow as we continue to remember and pray for the victims and their families.

TRIPLE P - POSITIVE PARENTING PROGRAM is a program that promotes good communication and strong relationships between parents and their children.  Triple P seminars and groups will be provided by practitioners in your community on the following dates...more

STRATEGIES TO MANAGE CHALLENGING BEHAVIOURS - Tuesday March 23, this free seminar will help parents of children aged 7-13 years develop positive family relationships, reflect on their current parenting style, learn strategies to prevent and manage difficult behaviours, and learn more about other parenting community resources...more

THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE  - We will be collecting food from October 1 – 8. We need  your help!  Please donate generously. You can make a difference!

ENTERTAINMENT BOOK '09 FUNDRAISER - Proceeds from this fundraiser will be used for our school library.  Cost of the book is $35, (make cheques payable to St. Gabriel School).  Please return the payment or sample book by October 9.  If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Spoto.

FRENCH IMMERSION REGISTRATION for grade 5 in September 2009 will take place at St. Gabriel School on Tue. January 27 and Wed. January 28, 2009.  9:00am - Noon & 1:30pm - 5:00pm.  Registration is open to all Burlington students currently in grade 4.  Visit the French Immersion page for more details on this program.
