Understanding Mental Health Issues and Nurturing Positive Mental Health in Our Youth
Guest speaker: Dr. Jane Storrie

Dr. Jane Storrie is a Burlington-based psychologist and founding partner of Storrie, Velikonja and Associates, a full-service psychology practice. She also offers three multidisciplinary specialty clinics providing assessment and treatment of child and youth mental health issues, concussion and dementia.

STUDENT INFORMATION - It is imperative that you advise the school office immediately of any change in home numbers, emergency contacts or addresses.  We must have up to date information in order to respond promptly in an emergency situation.

SUCCESS MAKER - The Halton Catholic District School Board is now offering an online Math tool for students from Grades 2 to 6, called SuccessMaker – a resource to successfully engage students in Mathematics. Link to SuccessMaker for registration details.

THE ONTARIO EDUCATION RESOURCE BANK (OERB) offers a number of digital activities and interactive leaning resources for Kindergarten to Grade 8.  For more details go to page 4 of this newsletter

FREE REAL-TIME MATH TUTORING - grade 7 to 10 math students at Halton Catholic District School Board now have access to 20 hours a week of free online math tutoring to help them improve and succeed in math...visit 

 NO BOTTLED WATER - The HCDSB is asking parents, students and staff to voluntarily not bring bottled water to school. Instead, please use a re-usable container (No glass please). This follows the philosophy of reducing plastic waste, and promotes the human right that water should be free and accessible to all. Our school water is regularly tested and is safe to drink.

VOLUNTEERS play an integral role as partners in education at St. Gabriel School. Please visit our Volunteers page and learn about the different opportunities to help out. On our Volunteers page you will also find the Offence Declaration Form to complete.

URGENT NEED FOR VOLUNTEERS for Snack Program, approximately 1 hour from 8:30 - 9:30am. We currently only have 4 volunteers to help deliver Snack to over 450 staff and students.  The program runs on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.  You can volunteer once a week, once every two weeks or once a month whatever suits your schedule.  Please contact Sharlane our Snack Program Coordinator for more information on this very worthwhile program.

THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE  - We will be collecting food from October 1 – 8. We need  your help!  Please donate generously. You can make a difference!

ENTERTAINMENT BOOK '09 FUNDRAISER - Proceeds from this fundraiser will be used for our school library.  Cost of the book is $35, (make cheques payable to St. Gabriel School).  Please return the payment or sample book by October 9.  If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Spoto.

FRENCH IMMERSION REGISTRATION for grade 5 in September 2012 will take place at St. Gabriel School on Tuesday February 21 and Wednesday February 22, 2011.  9:00am - Noon & 1:30pm - 5:00pm.  Registration is open to all Burlington students currently in grade 4.  Space is limited! Registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

NEW JK/SK REGISTRATION for September 2009 will take place at St. Gabriel School on Tue. January 27 and Wed. January 28, 2009.  9:00am - Noon & 1:30pm - 5:00pm.  Click here for more details.
