We are pleased to celebrate the successes of our St. Gabriel Community!

 

 

French Public Speaking Winners: Congratulations to the Extended French Public Speaking winners, grade 6 student Madison K. for her speech Mes Vacances a Hawaii and grade 8 student Madelyn B for her speech  Le stereotype des Blondes. Both students will continue on to the Regional French Public Speaking Competition that will be held on Thursday, April 8th, 2010 at St. Marguerite School in Oakville. March 2010

Grade 6 Student Wins English Public Speaking Competition: Felicia C. will be representing St. Gabriel's on March 25 at the Regional English Public Speaking Competition.  Felicia was chosen from the Grade 4-8 finalists for her speech on "How Technology is Affecting Our World"February, 2010

HCDSB "Sharing the Spirit" Award of Excellence:  Grade 8 student Nicole B. is this year's recipient from St. Gabriel School for the Sharing the Spirit Award. The purpose of the award is to recognize the outstanding work and contributions of students in Catholic schools in Halton. Nicole was selected according to the following criteria: exemplary Catholic leadership qualities, commitment to family, involvement in school affairs, relationship with staff and students, and involvement in community activities. February 2010

Spirit of Inclusion Award:  Isabella M.G.  is St. Gabriel's 2010 recipient of the Spirit of Inclusion Award. This award is for a student who demonstrates the following: involved in extra-curricular activities; demonstrates acts of friendship; exhibits strong school spirit committed to school activities; teachers & staff support the nomination; is a builder of school community; is involved in the spiritual life of the school; has an excellent attitude & spirit in meeting challenges; causes others to be valued & included, recognizing schoolmates as unique, each with contributions to make to the community. February 2010

Sr. Girls Basketball Silver Medalists at Tournament: Coaches Mr. Tilley and Mrs. Huffman are proud of the St. Gabriel Lady Storm basketball team who were silver medal finalists in the Holy Trinity Tournamnent on January 26.  The girls played outstanding defence and the captains Maddy and Maddie along with returning players Nicole and Lauren led their team to a very successful finish.  The girls won 4 games and lost only in the final, 34-27  to St. Andrew's. January 2010

Storm Ice Hockey Team Finalists at the The Burlington Waves' "New Years Challenge"  Tournament :  The team had a great day by making it to the championship game.  The team, unfortunately, came up short in a 5-4 loss to Central public in a thrilling game that when into over-time and eventually had to be decided by a shoot- out.  The team will compete in two more tournaments on February 25th and April 14th.  Way to go STORM! January 2010

St. Gabriel Boys Volleyball Finalists at ND Tournament: After a successful season, where they were undefeated in regular league play, the boys made it to the championship game at this year's Notre Dame Tournament, losing to St. Timothy in the championship game. December 2009

Student Wins HCDSB 100m Event For 3rd Consecutive Year:  Grade 8 student Noah C. has won the Halton Catholic District School Board 100m Boys Event for the 3rd consecutive year, setting a new board record in two of those years.  At the Halton meet this year, Noah also placed 2nd in the Midget Boys Long Jump and 3rd in the Midget Mixed Relay. June 2009



 

St. Gabriel Student Awarded 2009 Intense Watersports Program Scholarship: Congratulations to grade 7 student Joey M., who was recently awarded the 2009 Intense Watersports Program Scholarship, by Winning Techniques. Joey was selected as a scholarship receipient for a number of reasons, including his support for school activities and events, and his sense of responsibility to give back to his community through volunteer work and fundraising. Most recently, Joey raised $10,426.00 for McMaster Children's Hospital, Pediatric Oncology, and donated his platinum blonde long hair to Angel Hair for Kids. He is active in his parish, and was also selected to be a "Guardian" - a mentor for the younger children in his school. June 2009

Grade 8 Student Wins Eastern Canadian Gymnastics Title:  St. Gabriel student Denise G. has won the Eastern Canadian Gymnastics Championship in  St. John’s, Nfld.  Propelled by a gold-medal performance on the uneven parallel bars, Denise finished with a total score of 52.100...more  May 2009

 

 


 

Gymnast Named Athlete of the Week: Grade 4 student Mackenzie H. has been named athlete of the week in the May 13, 2009 edition of The Burlington Post.  Mackenzie is a 9 year old gymnast for Gym Magic.  In her 2nd year of competing, Mackenzie finished 3rd All-Around at the All-Star Gymnastics Challenge in Brampton this year...more  May 2009

Student Wins Bronze Medal at Provincial Basketball Championships: Grade 8 student Noah C., a member of the Burlington Skyhawks Major Bantam Boys #1 Basketball team, had a Bronze Medal finish at the Ontario Cup Provincial Championships (division 3) held in London, April 24 - 26.  April 2009

Grade 8 Student Wins Top Honours at  French Public Speaking Competition - On April 2, St. Gabriel Student Sophie R.'s speach on Les Fantomes (Ghosts) was selected as the winner at the board's French Public Speaking Competition in the category of Extended French, Intermediate Division.  April 2009

Senior Girls Basketball Team 2009 Burlington Champions & Halton Bronze Medal Winners -  After an undefeated regular season, St. Gabriel Storm Basketball Team are the Burlington Gold Medal Champions!  The girls are also the 2009 Notre Dame Feeder School Tournament Champions.  After winning the Burlington Championships, the team competed in the Halton Catholic Board playoffs, winning Bronze! April 2009

Grade 8 Students Have a Strong Showing at the 16th Annual  Halton Engineerring Challenge: Every March, Grade 8 students from the Halton Catholic District School Board & the Halton District School Board compete in the Halton Engineering Challenge, sponsored by Meritor Suspension Systems Company & McMaster University. St. Gabriel’s was proudly represented by Alex U., Breanne L., Brianne W., Ivan A., Noah P., Logan P.; Daniel C., David K., Jacob P., & Oliver P. The students demonstrated confidence, poise under pressure, and solid scientific knowledge, as they responded to tough questioning by judges. Alex, Ivan, Noah and Logan came away with the bronze medals, while Breanne, Brianne, Daniel, David, Jacob and Oliver brought home silver medals! March, 2009 
 

Grade 4 Student Wins English Public Speaking Competition: Grade 4 Student Mackenzie H. will be representing St. Gabriel's at the March 26 Regional English Public Speaking Competition.  Mackenzie was chosen from 13 Grade 4 - 8 finalists for her speech on her Gymnastic Competition. March, 2009

 

 

 

 

Third Place Finish for Grade 6 Student: On Saturday, Feb 21st, Sarah S. participated in the second round of the Free throw competition at St. Joan of Arc in Oakville.  She was able to advance to this level because she had ranked second in the first round of the Knights of Columbus Free Throw Competition on January 31st.  In round two, Sarah placed third, earning another medal!  February 2009

St. Gabriel Students Place 2nd at  Free Throw Competition: At the  Basketball  Free Throw competition sponsored by the Knights of Columbus and hosted at Corpus Christi Catholic High School, grade 6 student Sarah S. and grade 8 student Andrea C. both placed second in their age group! The competition is held annually as part of the Burlington Family Winter Carnival. Student Receives Ontario Junior Citizen Certificate of Recognition: Grade 6 student Sara F. has earned a nomination for Ontario Junior Citizen of the Year for the many hours she has given to various organizations...more

Sr. Girls Basketball Team Wins Cup of Hope:  The Lady Storm Basketball Team are the winners of this year's St. James Cup of Hope Tournament.  This is a charity tournament, hosted by St. James School in Oakville.  Proceeds from the tournament support the Canadian Cancer Society. January 2009

 

Grade 8 Student Wins Region's Poster Contest: Katherine D. is the Burlington winner of the Halton Region's More Blue & More Green Poster Contest.  Her poster is on the front cover of the 2009 Halton Region Waste Management Calendar for all homes in Burlington! January 2009

 

Student Qualifies for Royal Winnipeg Ballet School: Grade 6 student Julia D. will be dancing at one of Canada’s most prestigious ballet schools for a second consecutive summer... more  January 2009

 

 

St. Gabriel Volleyball Teams Successful at Notre Dame Tournament: The Boys Volleyball Team are this year's Notre Dame Feeder School Tournament Champions.  The Girls Team are the tournament finalists.  Congratulations to Noah C.  and Denise G. who were named tournament MVPs.          November 2008

 

Grade 1 Class Video Shown at Leadership Conference: As part of their Working Together Program: Bullying Prevention, Mrs. Shaw-Linger's grade 1 class learned a song entitled "Don't Laugh at Me". The children were video taped performing this song and the video was used for the opening video at the Be the Change! Youth Leadership and Action Day Conference ! We would like to thank our school Guardians Daniel C. and David K. for representing St. Gabriel School at this conference. November 2008 

Student Athletes Attend Intramural Student Leadership Conference: Grade 8 students Noah C. & Marissa V. and grade 7 students Madelaine H. & Garret W. were chosen to  attend the Raise the Bar, Intramural Student Leadership Conference in Guelph. The goal of the conference is to motivate & educate students about intramural program possibilities in their schools. Students play a key role in the delivery and sustainability of intramural programs and it is important that we empower them in this role. October 2008

 

Student Cuts His Hair for Charity: On his 12th Birthday, grade 7 student Joey M. cut his platinum blonde hair and donated it to Angel Hair for Kids.   At the same time he raised over $10,000 for Mcmaster Children's Hospital, Pediatric Oncology!...more   October, 2008

 

 

Two Athletes Finish 1st at Cross Country Meet: Miranda B. placed 1st in the Mite Girls Division (grade 4) and  Camilo S.  placed 1st in the Midget Boys Division (grade 8)! Team results are:   Mite Girls (Grade 4)  2nd place, Tyke Boys (Grade 5)  2nd place, Atom Boys (Grade 6)  2nd place, Midget Boys (Grade 8)  1st place.  October 2008

Bantam Athletes Set New Board Record: Denise G., Noah C., Camilo S. and Michelle M. set a new HCDSB record in the 4x100m Mixed Bantam Relay.  At the same meet, Noah C. set a new board record for the Bantam Boys 100m. June 2008
