ABSENCE/SAFE ARRIVAL PROCEDURE
Please contact the school before 8:00am if your child will be ABSENT OR LATE in arriving at school. When you call, let us know the name of your child, grade and teacher. If possible, let us know how long you expect the child to be absent. We have voice mail to record late night or early morning calls. If we do not hear from you, we will have to contact you either at home or at work to confirm your child's absence.
VISITORS and SCHOOL SECURITY
Visitors to St. Gabriel School include parents, guardians, former students, board personnel, parish support personnel, trades people, and other people who are not currently students or staff members of the school.
All doors are locked during the school day. Security cameras have been installed and all entry is through an intercom system at the front door, Door 1. Any arrangements to pick up a child by a relative, friend or neighbour must include a signed note from the parent.
To ensure the safety of our students, all visitors seeking access to the school for any reason, are asked to:
-
Enter through the main (front) doors of the school
-
Sign in at the office
-
Pick up and wear a visitor’s identification tag, in a visible location while in the school
-
Sign out and return the identification tag to the office when leaving the school
Please note that ‘signing-in’ does not provide general permission to visit classrooms or other locations in the school. Such permissions are obtained through prior arrangement with the school Principal. However, a volunteer may sign-in, take a tag and proceed directly to the designated area of activity. Should you require the release of your child to attend an appointment, please report to the office and your child will be paged from class.
Outdoors, parents are asked to stay outside of the fenced area in the schoolyard to ensure the safety of all our students. Only staff wearing brightly-coloured vests should be visible in the schoolyard areas.
Please review the Code of Conduct with regard to visitor conduct; the code is for all people who enter a school not just for the students. Your adherence is important to the safety of all students. Non-compliance with this expectation could result in loss or restriction of privileges with regard to visiting our school.
