Father Martin, from St. Gabriel's first grade 1 class in 1959, presents a bible to a current grade 1 student.
St. Gabriel School is located in Burlington, ON - south of Upper Middle Rd, between Guelph Ln and Brant St. The school sits adjacent to St. Gabriel Church and we are part of the Halton Catholic District School Board and are an associate school of Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School. Our school offers programs from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8. St. Gabriel is the only Catholic elementary school in Burlington to offer French Immersion. As of September 2007, St. Gabriel students wear a mandatory school uniform.
Our school has two gyms, a stage, a library, a full computer lab, and a beautiful Peace Garden in the centre courtyard of the school. Our facility was been adapted with the special needs child in mind. We have a special bathroom and change area and an elevator that makes the second floor accessible. We have a Community Living Class complete with a Snoezelen Room.
The school works in partnership with the church. We belong to St. Gabriel Parish and are fortunate to have priests who invite us to celebrate Mass at the Church, to visit the school for grade level liturgies, and administer the Sacraments for our students.
We have a YMCA daycare facility run by the city that offers an after school program. Local community groups also use the school in the evenings for activities and clubs.
Through the efforts of our Green Squad, St. Gabriel is certified an Ontario ECOschool with GOLD Status. St. Gabriel offers a Snack Program two mornings a week, sponsored in part by Halton Food for Thought, delivering healthy snack choices to our staff and students.
