"1st Annual St. Christopher Family Tiger Trek - 1km/5km Walk/Run" - All Proceeds to Haiti Relief!

Hello everyone,

In response to the devastation in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, as a community of faith, we have been and will continue to pray for the victims and their families as well as for the relief workers who continue to support the people impacted by this disaster.  We also recognize that the need in Haiti is immediate and will be ongoing for some time.

With the support of our Catholic School Council, we are organizing our “1st Annual St. Christopher Family Tiger Trek” with all proceeds directed to the relief efforts in Haiti through the Development and Peace Organization.   This event will take place on Sunday, May 30th at 2 p.m. and will start and finish at our school.  In addition to supporting the Haitian relief efforts, this event will also be a celebration of the “Year of the Family” in the Hamilton Diocese and promote an active and healthy lifestyle.

We have been informed that all donations sent through this organization by February 12th will be matched by the Canadian government, therefore, even though this event will not take place until May, we are requesting that your entry fee/donation be sent to the school by Friday, February 5th.   Please note the cheques need to be made out to the “Halton Catholic District School Board” and charitable tax receipts will be issued regardless of the amount.   Please note that all students who submit an “entry fee” will receive a special event t-shirt that is currently being designed by our committee.   Everyone who registers prior to February 5th will be eligible for our early bird draw which will include some great prizes.  Registration forms will be sent home next week.

Obviously, more information will be shared between now and May, however, to take maximize the funds being sent, we need to respond within the next two weeks.  In addition to this email, a student assembly will be held to highlight this event, and it will be on the front page of our February newsletter.

The St. Christopher School Community continually “rises to the occasion” to support our charitable causes, our World Visions initiative just prior to Christmas is an excellent example, and I know that we will come together to support the people of Haiti financially, and through daily prayer.  I also recognize that we have numerous parents willing to “roll up their sleeves” and assist in organizing events such as this – if you would like to support the “Tiger Trek” in any way (e.g. individual and/or corporate donations), please contact Mrs. Clarke-Lee via email at lynn.clarkelee@sympatico.ca.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thanking you for your continued support,

Patrick Mayne
