2013-2014 SCHOOLYEAR CALENDAR

Trustees of the Halton Catholic District School Board recently approved a School Year Calendar for 2013-2014.The school year calendar will now be submitted to the Ministry of Education for final approval, which is anticipated in late spring, 2013.

Please visit our Board’s website for important dates to remember, and detailed information regarding the2013-2014 School Year Calendar at: http://www.hcdsb.org/Calendar/Pages/2013-2014-School-Year-Calendar.aspx.

The Board’s website will be updated as soon as final approval has been received from the Ministry of Education, and another notification will be sent to parents at that time.

PEANUTS AND OTHER LIFE THREATENINGALLERGIES

We have students who suffer from life-threatening food allergies to nuts, peanuts and/or anything made from peanut products. Should these students come into contact with these – even to touch a bit that a child leaves on a desk, sink, fountain or hand – they will go into anaphylactic shock, possibly causing death.

For these reasons, we cannot permit baked goods (homemade or otherwise) or store bought treats to be distributed to classes for special occasions, birthday celebrations, etc.

Please encourage your children to eat only the food and snacks that they bring from home. Also, please remind your children that they should not be sharing snacks with other children because those children may have an allergy or other medical condition that restricts their diet.

Look-a-Like products to peanut butter

Products such as WOWBUTTER, Sunbutter, Golden Pea Butter are almost identical in colour, consistency, smell and taste to peanut butter. It is impossible to monitor for student safety when it is so hard to differentiate between these products and peanut butter. Therefore, the Board expectation is that parents do not send their children to school with look-a-like products to peanut butter. We thank you in advance for your cooperation!

HEAD LICE REPORT

Over the last few weeks there has been a significant increase in the outbreak of Pediculosis (Head Lice) within our Board and the Halton District School Board in the Halton Region. To deal with this increase , our service provider, We Care, has added additional staffing for each area of the region i.e. Burlington, Milton/Halton Hills, and Oakville. Click here for more information on how to check and, if necessary, treat your child.
