WHAT IS ON-LINE LEARNING?
On-line is a system through which secondary school credit courses are delivered over the Internet. Over the Internet, you are able to connect to our Class Campus site, log-on to a course in which you are registered, and proceed with your course work.

DO ON-LINE CREDITS COUNT TOWARD MY SECONDARY SCHOOL DIPLOMA?

Yes. On-line courses are just like the courses offered in a regular Ontario Secondary School.

HOW ARE ON-LINE COURSES TAUGHT?
When you register for an on-line course within the Halton Catholic District School Board, you will be provided with log-on information such as username and ID. You will also receive an Internet address (URL) to your course.

WHY OFFER COURSES OVER A NETWORK?
Courses delivered in this fashion allow you more flexibility in terms of the courses you are able to take. You must, however, be motivated and focused. If you are motivated and focused, on-line learning can be rewarding, convenient and fun.

WHO TEACHES ON-LINE COURSES?
Certified teachers who are employed by the Halton Catholic District School Board deliver on-line courses. Our teachers are assigned to both on-line and regular day school classes.

Your teacher will be on-line at specific times of the day (or evening) to assist you with questions or concerns.

WHAT ABOUT TEXTBOOKS AND OTHER RESOURCES?
Where published material is available, courses offered by the Halton Catholic District School Board are supported by on-line texts. Textbook resources are available in electronic format (PDF read-only), which support the instruction given in Class Campus for all courses. Additional materials such as novels, must be purchased by the student.

WILL ATTENDANCE BE MONITORED?
In most cases, this form of course delivery works well. Obvious prerequisites include motivation, computer familiarity, and the ability to work independently and meet deadlines.  For students with some learning styles, taking on-line courses may not be an appropriate choice.

WHAT ABOUT PRIVACY AND SECURITY
You are only able to enter a course with a password and log-in which is assigned at registration and private to the user. No personal information is accessible to anyone else. Privacy is governed in exactly the same way as it is in the regular day school program.

ARE THERE ANY FEES?
Yes. There is a $75.00 access fee This fee is non-refundable. Additional deposits may be required for CD texts or resource packages.

WHAT EQUIPMENT IS NEEDED?
Recommended Minimum Computer Requirements:
- Pentium 200 or greater
- Browser: Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or greater
- Macromedia Flash Player (can be downloaded free of charge)
- Adobe Acrobat Reader (can be downloaded free of charge)
- A stable connection to the Internet through an Internet Service Provider. Arranging and maintaining an Internet connection is the student’s responsibility.
